The Hawker Hurricane was the most widespread and used fighter by the British Royal Air Force at the beginning of the Second World War. The Hurricane was powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin 12-cylinder in-line, liquid-cooled engine of over 1,000 HP that could take it to a speed of more than 500 km / h. The 8 7.7 mm Browning machine guns with which it was equipped also guaranteed good firepower. Although it was slower and more outdated, in aerodynamic design, than the famous "colleague" Supermarine Spitfire with whom it shared the operational commitment during the Battle of Britain, it was still more robust, economical and easy to maintain and repair. It was also easier to pilot and pilot training was faster. It contributed decisively to the victory of the R.A.F. during the Battle of Britain but, during the war, it gradually ceded the role of front-line fighter to the much more modern Spitfire.
